What Somatic Therapy looks like with me.

Central to somatic psychotherapy is the concept of the mind-body connection. Traditional psychotherapy often focuses on exploring thoughts and emotions through verbal communication.

Somatic therapy, however, recognizes that our bodies store memories and emotions, and by accessing these physical sensations, individuals can gain a deeper understanding of their psychological state.

These are some of the interventions you might expect:

Embodied Awareness:

I will encourage you to develop a heightened awareness of your physical sensations. This involves paying attention to tensions, discomfort, or even areas of relaxation. By tuning into these sensations you can start to identify the physical manifestations of your emotions, making it easier to for you to do something about it in the moment.

Breath and Movement:

Breath and movement are integral components of somatic therapy. I will guide you to explore how certain emotions are expressed through breath patterns or bodily movements. This process can facilitate the release of tension and you reconnect with your bodies more effectively.

Mindfulness and Presence:

Practicing mindfulness is a cornerstone of somatic psychotherapy. By staying present in the moment and observing bodily sensations without judgment, you can begin to unravel the layers of stored emotions. Mindfulness techniques empower you to navigate your emotional experiences with greater clarity.
